Many people turn to the internet to find digital layouts for scrapbooking. They think that using the templates of others will help them get their products created and completed faster than if they were to just work on them from scratch. While this may be true, you often end up with boring, uninspired layouts. If you were to start from scratch and create your own layouts you have the most likelihood of actually creating a truly unique work of art. After all, you do want others to like and admire your scrapbook – you don’t make them just for yourself!

Take, for example, many of the scrap book layouts you can find by searching through Google. Many of them are a couple of basic squares and borders. There is usually a place where you can update or change the title and subtitle. But then what? What is so creative or difficult about that? The problem with using these boring and lazy layouts is that you will have the same scrapbooking ideas as everyone else. Why not come up with some truly unique and inspired scrapbook layout ideas?

Another problem is that in the search to become creative and unique, there is a chance a scrapbook layout can actually become offensive. Take the following scrapbooking layouts idea for an example. It is a prom layout that has two spaces – one is for the “in crowd” and the other is for the “out crowd.” The instructions indicate that you are supposed to place a photo of you or your child with friends at the “in crowd” spot. You are supposed to find kids that you think are “losers” to put in the “out crowd” spot. We know a woman who did this and was showing the scrap book to a fellow member of the church. As it would turn out, the “out crowd” kids were the fellow member’s children. Needless to say, that friendship didn’t blossom.

If you want to get inspired, go ahead and browse the layouts that are available online. But we strongly recommend you avoid the urge to simply print out or directly copy layout ideas you find online. Once you have gotten some inspiration you can go ahead make your own. There’s no reason you need to copy them exactly. You got into this hobby because you loved the creativity. You loved how it made you feel when you made the scrapbook! You are a creative individual and are able to make your own layouts for scrapbooking that are truly unique and inspiring.
